Started a face study of actress Elle Fanning. Young girls’s skin is very smooth with not a lot of texture. I love the freckles she has and the very cool undertone of her fair skin.
I chose white Pastelmat for this painting because Elle’s skin is so fair I want to keep the colour very clear and glowy. It’s an experimentation because I’m aware that most pastel artists use toned paper for a good reason. I feel rather comfortable working on white because of my graphite and coloured pencil background. I find it much easier to judge colour and value on a white surface.
